Nuclear War Threat Assessment – 9/1/24 – The DEFCON Warning System

This is the DEFCON Warning System.  Alert status for 9 P.M. UTC, Sunday, September 1st, 2024.  Condition code is Green.  DEFCON 5.

There are currently no imminent nuclear threats at this time.

Ukraine’s incursion into Russia has been met with some success, with Ukraine holding Russian territory.  Additional attacks by Ukraine into Russia has brought the war closer to home for Russia.  At this time, Russia has responded by escalating attacks against Ukraine, but there has been no sign of any movement beyond the conventional attacks that Russia has been using so far.

Ukraine has said it does not intend to claim Russian territory nor hold it, though it continues to demand Russia return Ukraine territory it has seized.

We will continue to monitor this developing situation.

Ukraine has begun to fly F-16s against Russia in Russia’s war against the country. The Netherlands says Ukraine can use its F-16s to strike Russian territory.

Iran has changed its stance and now says that there is no harm in engaging with the enemy over its nuclear programme.
