DEFCON Warning System – Update 6/1/21

This is the DEFCON Warning System. Alert status for 2 P.M., Tuesday, June 1st, 2021. Condition code is Green. DEFCON 5.

There are currently no imminent nuclear threats at this time.

While Ukraine has been out of the news, the United States is claiming that that Russia is keeping 80,000 troops near border with Ukraine while Russia says that an additional 20 military formations and units will be formed in the Western Military District by the end of the year.  The United States says it will not re-join the Open Skies agreement with Russia.

The United States says that China is looking to establish a large navy port capable of hosting submarines or aircraft carriers on Africa’s western coast.  Meanwhile, China threatens to attack Australia if Australia militarily defends Taiwan from China attack.  The United Kingdom has sent a military fleet to sail through the South China Sea as tensions in the area continue to increase.

The head of the United Nations nuclear watchdog has said Iran is enriching uranium to levels that only countries seeking to make atomic weapons reach.  Additionally, The International Atomic Energy Agency says that it has not been able to access data to Iran’s nuclear program since late February.  The United States says sanctions will only be lifted from Iran if Iran comes into compliance with nuclear deal.

South Korea and the U.S. end Revised Missile Guidelines which limited South Korea ballistic missiles to 800 km.  Meanwhile, current estimates place North Korea’s nuclear weapon arsenal somewhere between 20-60 with a projection of 151 to 242 in six years.
