DEFCON Warning System – Statement on Ukraine crisis

The DEFCON Warning System is currently monitoring the growing crisis in the Ukraine theatre and the tensions between Russia and NATO.

However, we will remain at DEFCON 4 as long as any conflict remains between Russia and Ukraine.

Unless NATO, the United States, or an European Union country sends military assets across the Ukraine border and directly engages Russian forces, there is little chance this conflict will escalate towards a larger regional war or a nuclear exchange.

We encourage the public to remain informed on events unfolding in Eastern Europe, but there is no cause for concern of a larger conflict at this point in time. If that changes, we will issue an immediate update via our usual outlets.

Again, there are no indications at this time of a nuclear threat to the U.S., Europe, or Russia at this time, and we remain at DEFCON 4.

The DEFCON Warning System is a private intelligence organization which has monitored and assessed nuclear threats by national entities since 1984. It is not affiliated with any government agency and does not represent the alert status of any military branch. The public should make their own evaluations and not rely on the DEFCON Warning System for any strategic planning. At all times, citizens are urged to learn what steps to take in the event of a nuclear attack.
