DEFCON Warning System – Update 1/1/24

This is the DEFCON Warning System. Alert status for 9 P.M. UTC, Monday, January 1st, 2024.  Condition code is Green.  DEFCON 5.

There are currently no imminent nuclear threats at this time.

The United States says it will quadruple ammunition production in the coming years, and the U.S. Space Command says it has reached full operational capability.  Meanwhile, North Korea says it is planning additional satellite launches and expanding its nuclear arsenal in 2024.

Belgium has formally received its first Lockheed Martin F-35A Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter.  Finland has granted rapid military access to the U.S. on its territory, and a German brigade is to be combat ready in Lithuania on Russia’s border in 2027.  NATO intercepts of Russian aircraft return to pre-Ukrainian war levels.

Military-to-military talks between the United States and China have resumed.

As expected, the IAEA has reported that Iran has increased its production of highly enriched uranium, reversing a previous output reduction from mid-2023.

At this time, the Hamas war against Israel and Iranian proxy attacks in the Red Sea currently do not threaten to expand to involve conflict with opposing nuclear powers.  We do continue to monitor the situation in the event the various wars conflagrate into a larger, more dangerous state.  There is no cause for public concern at this time.

The DEFCON Warning System is a private intelligence organization which has monitored and assessed nuclear threats by national entities since 1984.  It is not affiliated with any government agency and does not represent the alert status of any military branch.  The public should make their own evaluations and not rely on the DEFCON Warning System for any strategic planning.  At all times, citizens are urged to learn what steps to take in the event of a nuclear attack.  If this had been an actual attack, the DEFCON Warning System will give radiation readings for areas that are reported to it.  Your readings will vary.  Official news sources will have radiation readings for your area.
