DEFCON Warning System – Update 9/1/23

This is the DEFCON Warning System. Alert status for 9 P.M. UTC, Friday, September 1st, 2023.  Condition code is Green.  DEFCON 5.

There are currently no imminent nuclear threats at this time.

China, along with Russia, have conducted a joint naval drill near Alaska, highlighting China’s position that it is a “Near Arctic Power,” a position that Russia should be wary of.  China has also remapped part of Russian land and claimed it as its own.  The Philippines and Australia are to hold joint maritime patrols in South China Sea.

Russia says it is not planning to annex any more Ukrainain territories.  Poland is planning to move around 10,000 troops to its eastern border with Belarus amid mounting concerns over Wagner forces in the region. The United States has approved sending F-16 to Ukraine.

Russia has placed its Sarmat strategic complex (Satan-2) has been put on combat duty, though it has only had a single successful test.

North Korea has hacked a Russian missile developer last year.  Nevertheless, North Korea and Russia call for enhanced cooperation in the realm of defence.  South Korea’s spy agency claims possibility that Russia will transfer core nuclear & missile technology to North Korea.  Meanwhile, North Korea says it will soon equip its navy with nuclear weapons.
