DEFCON Warning System – Update 8-1-23

This is the DEFCON Warning System. Alert status for 9 P.M. UTC, Tuesday, August 1st, 2023.  Condition code is Green.  DEFCON 5.

There are currently no imminent nuclear threats at this time.

The G7 has announced long-term security guarantees for Ukraine which Russia claims will breach the safety of Russia.  Additionally, Russia says that sending F-16 fighters capable of carrying nuclear weapons to Ukraine will be considered by Russia as a threat from the West in the nuclear field.  The United States counters that any attack by the Wagner group will be considered an attack by Russia.  This is especially important considering Wagner’s position in Belarus and threats to Poland.  Russia says that an attack on Belarus would be considered an attack on Russia.

China is supplying Russia with dual-use equipment to assist Russia in its war against Ukraine, skirting around sanctions.  China also warns that any NATO movement into the Asia-Pacific region or any action threatening Beijing’s rights would be met with a resolute response.

The United Kingdom Space Command has officially established a space domain awareness cell in co-operation with the United States to enhance orbital surveillance.

In return for recognizing Israel, Saudi Arabia has stated that it wants American weapons and nuclear technology.

North Korea warns that it may shoot down U.S. spy aircraft in the East Sea of Korea.

The DEFCON Warning System is a private intelligence organization which has monitored and assessed nuclear threats by national entities since 1984.  It is not affiliated with any government agency and does not represent the alert status of any military branch.  The public should make their own evaluations and not rely on the DEFCON Warning System for any strategic planning.  At all times, citizens are urged to learn what steps to take in the event of a nuclear attack.  If this had been an actual attack, the DEFCON Warning System will give radiation readings for areas that are reported to it.  Your readings will vary.  Official news sources will have radiation readings for your area.
