DEFCON Warning System – Update 2/1/24

This is the DEFCON Warning System. Alert status for 9 P.M. UTC, Thursday, February 1st, 2024.  Condition code is Green.  DEFCON 5.

There are currently no imminent nuclear threats at this time.

Tensions continue to rise throughout the Middle East region as more countries become involved in skirmishes and retaliatory strikes against each other.  As of this update, military action has occurred or is occurring in Yemen, Israel, Jordan, Syria, Iran, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, with the U.S. and Iranian proxies also engaging.  This conflict currently involves two confirmed nuclear powers, the United States and Pakistan, Israel whose nuclear programme is an open secret, and Iran whom some experts believe have acquired nuclear weapon technology.  The DEFCON Warning System currently considers the risk of a nuclear conflict in the Middle East to be low.  However, if the situation continues to escalate or potentially grow to involve more countries, a nuclear threat could become more plausible.  We will continue to monitor the situation and report as necessary.

South Korea has nullified the buffer zones created under a 2018 inter-Korean military agreement, citing North Korea’s conducting of live-fire drills near the western maritime border.  North Korea says it will no longer pursue reconciliation with South Korea.

Sweden has decided to send ground troops to participate in alliance operations along the Russian border.  NATO is conducting exercises over the next few months involving a total of 90,000 troops and range from North America to NATO’s eastern flank, close to the Russian border.  Turkey has voted in favour of Sweden membership into NATO.

The United States is considering moving nuclear weapons to British soil.

The DEFCON Warning System is a private intelligence organization which has monitored and assessed nuclear threats by national entities since 1984.  It is not affiliated with any government agency and does not represent the alert status of any military branch.  The public should make their own evaluations and not rely on the DEFCON Warning System for any strategic planning.  At all times, citizens are urged to learn what steps to take in the event of a nuclear attack.  If this had been an actual attack, the DEFCON Warning System will give radiation readings for areas that are reported to it.  Your readings will vary.  Official news sources will have radiation readings for your area.
