Nuclear War Threat Assessment – 10/1/24 – The DEFCON Warning System

This is the DEFCON Warning System.  Alert status for 9 P.M. UTC, Tuesday, October 1st, 2024.  Condition code is Green.  DEFCON 5.

There are currently no imminent nuclear threats at this time.

At the moment of this report, Iran has launched a ballistic attack against Israel, with Israel vowing a counter-attack in a few hours.  Iran sent missiles in the area of Israel’s Dimona nuclear facility, but there was no damage to the plant.  While there is little cause for concern that this war will turn nuclear, we will continue to monitor the situation.

Russia says it is modifying its nuclear doctrine in response to what it has perceived as the escalation course of Western adversaries.  Russia has implied that a united Russia/China response would be made to any U.S. attack against either country.  Additionally, Russia is to increase its army size to the second largest, behind China.

More countries are sending advanced weaponry to Ukraine to assist in its war against Russia, such deliveries sparking warnings from Russia that it would make nuclear war more likely.

Polls show that 71%  of South Koreans support developing a domestic nuclear arsenal.

The United Kingdom, the U.S., and Canadian nuclear regulators have outlined high-level principles for deploying artificial intelligence in the nuclear sector while attempting to maintain adequate safety and security.

Iran has launched a satellite into space with a rocket built by the country’s Revolutionary Guard, which the West fears helps Tehran advance its ballistic missile program.  There are reports of renewed and accelerated activities at two critical former Amad Plan sites in Iran —Sanjarian and Golab Dareh. These sites were pivotal in the early 2000s in Iran’s crash nuclear weapons programme.

The DEFCON Warning System is a private intelligence organization which has monitored and assessed nuclear threats by national entities since 1984.  It is not affiliated with any government agency and does not represent the alert status of any military branch.  The public should make their own evaluations and not rely on the DEFCON Warning System for any strategic planning.  At all times, citizens are urged to learn what steps to take in the event of a nuclear attack.  If this had been an actual attack, the DEFCON Warning System will give radiation readings for areas that are reported to it.  Your readings will vary.  Official news sources will have radiation readings for your area.
