This is the DEFCON Warning System. Alert status for 9 P.M. UTC, Sunday, April 3rd, 2022. Condition code is Blue. DEFCON 4.
There are currently no imminent nuclear threats at this time, however there are events occurring in the world theatre which require closer monitoring.
Russia has retreated from the West of Ukraine and is digging in defensive positions in the East. Russia has changed its stated goals and now says that it only wants to capture certain East parts of Ukraine. Analysts believe that Russia’s pullback from the West is not a retreat but a temporary withdrawal to reorganize and resupply before a new offensive.
Radioactive material that could be used in the making of a dirty bomb have gone missing from a Chernobyl monitoring lab. Meanwhile, Ukraine has struck inside Russia for the first time.
An evaluation of the current situation around Ukraine indicates that there has been a reduction in the threat of nuclear use. While the situation is still volatile, Russia’s retreat has induced a pause in the war. This does not mean that military action is not ongoing, but that the immediate concern has waned. The DEFCON Warning System believes that, for the moment, the possibility of nuclear weapon use is not as close as it was.
It should be noted that there is a strong possibility of increased action, and that should Russia’s position in the East be threatened, the potential of nuclear weapons use will increase again. We therefore advise the public to continue making preparations in the event that the situation deteriorates.
In the Middle-East/Asia region, there is political turmoil in the country of Pakistan, which has caused India to raise its alert level. We will continue to monitor these developments.
The DEFCON Warning System is a private intelligence organization which has monitored and assessed nuclear threats by national entities since 1984. It is not affiliated with any government agency and does not represent the alert status of any military branch. The public should make their own evaluations and not rely on the DEFCON Warning System for any strategic planning. At all times, citizens are urged to learn what steps to take in the event of a nuclear attack. If this had been an actual attack, the DEFCON Warning System will give radiation readings for areas that are reported to it. Your readings will vary. Official news sources will have radiation readings for your area.
